Trojan girls lacrosse team ties for second overall

In front of a Senior Night crowd, the Oak Ridge girls lacrosse team had a “typical barnburner,” according to coach Ed Holton, against St. Francis Tuesday in the last game of the season, won by St. Francis 11-10.

The seniors who played for the final time as Trojans include Megan Lee, Heather Tegley, Jennifer Tegley and Emmeline Wilson.

The Troubadours scored first two minutes into the game but the Trojans answered at the 12-minute mark. The score continued to remain close with four ties in the first half of play but wih a minute left before the break, the Trojans scored to take a 5-4 lead at halftime.

Oak Ridge scored two consecutive goals in the second half to take a 7–4 lead with about 22 minutes left in the game but St. Francis chipped away at the lead and finally tied it at 8-8, 10 minutes later. .

The score was tied two more times: 9–9 at the six-minute mark and 10–10 with 2:04 on the clock. St. Francis went ahead for good, with 1:49 left and held off the Trojans to post the victory.

Oak Ridge ended the season at 8-9 overall, 5-3 in the conference, to finish tied for second place with Granite Bay. St. Francis took first with a perfect 8-0 record.

Fun fact: Of the six games that Oak Ridge and St. Francis have played over the past three years, five were decided by one goal.

Scoring for Oak Ridge: Jordynn Wood, 4; Bridgette Hanson, 2; Maddy Hames, 2; Megan Lee, Morgan Backarich. Liz Shaeffer had 14 saves in goal.
