Trojan harriers fare well at Stanford Invite

PALO ALTO — It was a good day of racing for the Oak Ridge cross country teams at the 39th Annual Stanford Cross Country Invitational against teams from California and out of state.

The varsity girls’ team placed third out of 27 teams in the Division 1 race. Captain Rachel Peterson led Oak Ridge with a 10th place finish out of 196 runners while Briana Dulgar, Ellie Velez, Maddie Dezordo, Sami Kilcollins, Whitney Wilhelmy and Alison Bamford did a great job contributing to the team’s success.

The varsity boys’ team turned in a solid sixth-place performance out of 35 teams as captain Dusty Armstrong led his team with a seventh place finish from a field of 244 runners that included Trojans  Jake Zeltner, Marcos Conde, Jordan Hordesky, Ryan Prestegard and Alex Merry. Senior Zach Thornton was unable to race due to illness.

The Stanford Invitational, held last weekend, gave the Trojans an early season look at a high level of competiton on the 5-kilometer course on Stanford University’s golf course.

Oak Ridge had three alumni (Zach Speno for Azusa Pacific, Samantha Ralstin for UC Berkeley, Maxine Goyette for UC Santa Barbara) who competed in the collegiate races.
