Oak Ridge cross country teams competed at the Sacramento State Hornet Jamboree on Sept. 11, racing against 24 other high schools.

Trojan runners ran in five races at the invitational held at Granite Regional Park(boys and girls open 2.2 mile race, frosh/soph boys race, frosh/soph girls race, varsity boys race, varsity girls race).

The varsity boys placed 11th and the varsity girls did not have a team score because only three athletes competed. The varsity boys were lead by senior Colin Picher who placed 55th with a time of 17:09. This was a 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) personal best for Colin. Senior Rachel Peterson led the varsity girls with a third place finish with a time of 18:35, also a personal best.

Sophomore Austin Streetman led the frosh/soph boys with a third place finish, 11:51, over the 2.2 mile course. His efforts helped his entire team also place third with 99 points. Freshman Sarah Dolley placed 4th with a time of 13:49 over the 2.2 mile course, the top Trojan runner for the frosh/soph girls. The frosh/soph girls put in a very strong team effort by placing second behind Davis with 43 points. Six frosh/soph girls placed in the top 15.

Sophomore Chad Vardas was the first finisher for Oak Ridge in the boys open race. He placed 12th with a time of 13:03. This was Chad’s first race of the season; he recently recovered from an injury. Senior Sami Kilcollins raced very well to win the girls open race with a time of 15:05.
