Trojan track teams perform well

The Oak Ridge track and field teams are off to good start this season. Several athletes at the March 3 Sacramento State High School Classic Invite and March 10 Gilbert/King Invite earned medals.

The only team scores came from the Gilbert/King Gilbert. The varsity girls were second with 84 points; varsity boys sixth with 28 points; freshmen/sophomore girls 13th with 13 points; and the freshmen/sophomore boys second with 72 points. There were 24 teams participating at the Gilbert/King Invite.

Top varsity performers at both events were Holli Arietta who won the 800 meters each weekend and Shannon Trumbull who won the 100 meter hurdles and was second in the 300 hurdles at Gilbert after double third-place finishes at Sac State. She also took fourth in the 100 meter dash at Gilbert.

At Gilbert/King, Maxine Goyette was second in the 1,600 meter and 3,200 races — Elli Velez third in the 1,600 —while Sean McHone was third both weekends running the 1,500 and 1,600 meterraces. At Sac State and Gilbert, Jessica Embe was second in the high jump while Zach Youngberg was third in the 110 meter hurdles at Sac State.

Velez was was third in the 3,000 the first weekend and third in the 800 at Gilbert.

Oak Ridge also had a second and third place relay team at Gilbert. Donald Grady, Shay Mueller, Nick Emanuel amd Youngberg tied for second in the 4 x 100 relay while on the girls side, Sabrina Andrus, Breanna Baker, Jaimi Gotro and Arietta finished third in the same race.

The Oak Track and Field team will host the first Annual Oak Ridge Trojan Track & Field Invitational tomorrow with field events starting at 1 p.m. and running events starting at 1:30.
