Trojans 10-run Ponderosa

In their final tune-up game before the playoffs, the Oak Ridge Trojan baseball team wasted no time dismantling the Ponderosa Bruins in a six-inning, mercy-rule 10-0 win.

The game was close early. Oak Ridge starter Alex Fitchett shut out the Bruins while Ponderosa’s Jacob Bist settled down after allowing a first-inning run off of a Cody Morris single that scored Zach Mahon.

Oak Ridge loaded the bases in the fifth after Bobby Gatta reached on a bunt single and Mahon singled to score Jack Rico and Alec de Watteville. Oak Ridge scored three more runs before relief pitcher Austin Turgeon induced a double play.

Fitchett allowed one single in the top of the sixth, but doubled him off to end the inning. Oak Ridge came up to bat and quickly went back to work as Mahon knocked in another run, Mason Watkins drove in a run and Akex Fagalde walked in the game-ending run on a 3-2 count.

Afterwards, Oak Ridge honored seniors: Jason and Jared Ross, Mahon, Cody Morris, Cody Uharriet, Watkins, Fitchett, Fagalde, Gatta and Lance Berringer.

“We got great pitching from (Fitchett), and good clutch hitting. It was a nice way to end the regular season,” coach Todd Melton said.
