Trojans 10-run Vista

Host Oak Ridge overcame an early deficit to blast visiting Vista del Lago 15-2 in five innings Wednesday as Trojan Alyssa Burns pitched a complete game.

“Alyssa threw a great game. She located her pitches, hit her spots, and that makes it a lot easier. Hitting wise, we hit the ball great. Defensively we were a little shaky, but coming off of break with only one practice in a week and a half, it makes it tough. I thought the hitting would be a little farther behind, but they came out and hit the ball hard,” Oak Ridge coach Sam Kloczko said.

In the top of the first inning, Vista got on the board but in the bottom half Troy took control after Lauren Bertoy’s leadoff double. Lindsey Zito, Caitlyn Olan, Bailey Cook, Bertoy and Jackie Schmaeling drove in runs for a commanding 9-1 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Oak Ridge added to its lead as Michelle Bardini drove in Renee Bardini who had doubled. Following a Jessica Burgess walk, Amber Orchard sent a fastball overt the center field wall and Bertoy homered later in the inning as the Trojans led 13-1 at the end of the inning.

Burns retired the Eagles in the top of the third but was nicked for a run in the fourth. Schmaeling and Zito each added RBIs and Burns mowed the Eagles down 1-2-3 to close the game on the mercy rule.
