The Trojan boys and girls easily defeated the visiting Pleasant Grove swim team, 110.50-56.50 and 110.50-56.50, respectively, on Wednesday, March 30.
“Everyone gave 100 percent and the times proved it,” said coach Patrick Foster. “We got to see a lot of fast swims today.”
The Oak Ridge girls won every relay and swept first, second and third in the 50 free (Hannah Bensman, Ashley Adams, and Haley Godwin) and 100 free (Bensman, Adams, and Julia Lamb) events. First place finishes in section qualifying times came from Maddie Velez (200 free 2:04.86, 100 fly 1:03.55) and Cypress Lampe (200 IM 2:16.50, 100 back 1:05.07). Bensman won the 50 free in 26.43 and qualified for sections in the 100 free (57.12), along with teammates Adams and Lamb clocking in at 58.20 and 58.71, respectively.
The Trojan boys dominated by winning every event but the 200 medley relay.
“Every meet we are getting stronger and faster,” said Foster.
Outstanding swims came from multiple event winners Garrison Yeandle (50 free 22.41, 100 fly 55.43), Trevor Dong (100 free 50.43, 100 back 57.90), Brandon Mills (500 free 4:55.45, 100 breast 1:00.65), Joshua Verner (200 Free 1:51.47) and Dylan Kubick (200 IM 1:59.57)
Oak Ridge divers Jordan Gotro and Sydney Newman added to the Trojan victory by placing first in both the men and women’s 1-meter diving competition.
Oak Ridge swimmers had more than 26 section qualifying swims at this meet.
“It looked like both teams were able to get some more kids qualified for sections,” Foster said.
Making the cuts were: Velez, Verner, Yeandle, Bensman, Adams, Lamb, Dong, Mills, Lampe, Kubick, Corbin Gomez, Mikayla Mefford, Joey Carney, Bryan Cole, Shannon Kiss, Kirsten Banks-Gwartney, Everett Conrad and Kyle Bare.
“What a great sunny day. Perfect weather for being at the pool,” said Foster. “I can not wait to see how the kids will swim next week.”
Oak Ridge hosts Jesuit and St. Francis Wednesday, April 6, at the Oak Ridge CSD pool starting at 4 p.m.
