Varsity runners take on Stanford course
Oak Ridge’s boys and girls cross country teams ran good races at the Sept. 28 Stanford Cross Country Invitational on the university’s golf course.
The varsity girls placed fifth out of 30 teams in the Division 1 race; 209 runners from high schools all over the state and out of state completed the course. Lady Trojan Rachel Peterson placing second with a very fast time of 18:45 (6:02 per mile pace).
“Rachel ran a strategically very sound race by not going out too fast and held a strong pace throughout the race,” said coach Rob Fairley. “She passed several competitors the second half of the race.”
The varsity girls also celebrated a section rival win over Woodcreek by two places. The Oak Ridge girls scored 218 points and Woodcreek scored 225 points.
The varsity boys placed 15th with 465 points. There were 36 teams in the race and 248 runners completed the 5,000-meter course. The team was led by freshman Luke Bricca who placed 72nd with a time of 17:33 (5:39 per mile pace). Bricca obtained a personal best for 5,000 meters and was the fourth fastest freshman in the race.
