In a girls water polo nonleague contest last Tuesday, Granite Bay dominated Oak Ridge from tip-off. The Lady Grizzlies jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led 8-3 at the half to post a 10-7 victory.

The Lady Trojans (1-2) scored their first goal with 2:46 left in the first quarter when Morgan Jones, one of seven seniors on the team, drew out her Grizzly opponent from the net and then fired the shot to cut the Grizzlies’ lead to 4-1.

Oak Ridge scored two more goals before halftime: Jones her second on a pass from Alexandra Greer and another with 2:38 left.

Oak Ridge’s defense was a factor in the second half as Granite Bay scored just twice more.

“After we settled down, the game was pretty even up the rest of the way,” McCormick said. “The last three quarters were pretty even up.”

Greer scored in the third quarter to cut the lead to an 8-4 margin. Danielle Stein scored another goal for Oak Ridge with 2:02 left to cut the lead to 10-5.

The last two goals came in the fourth quarter  from Cailin Navickas.

Jones finished with three goals, Navickas two and Greer and Stein had one each.
