Mike Sundby was honored for more than 10 years of excellent community service and coaching, first at Marina Village and then with the El Dorado Hills Wrestling Club.

Since 2000, Sundby has given starts to the careers of many Oak Ridge High and Ponderosa wrestlers including the following Trojan graduates who went on to wrestle at Division I college programs: Andy Wagner, Cal Poly; Kyle West, Utah Valley University; and Vince Waldhauser, University of
Virginia.

Current Oak Ridge wrestlers who qualified for last weekend’s Masters in Stockton who began under Sundby’s guidance are: Keaton Subjeck, Taylor Elleman, Hugh Elleman, Trey Reese, Josh Ploke, Cameron Miller and Zach Claiborne.

Subjeck, a returning state medalist, and Claiborne will wrestle in the upcoming CIF State Championships in Bakersfield.

Several Bruin alumni of note that started with Sundby are: Jace Miller, Menlo College; and Jesse Routsong Emery Riddle University.

When asked what Sundby’s greatest contributions to the wrestling community is, coach Benjamin West, co-founder of El Dorado Hills Wrestling Club said, “With Sundby there is no ego, he does it for the kids — to help learn the best technique before entering their high school programs.”

Sundby has also done an outstanding job training coaches in the community.

Currently, the El Dorado Hills Wrestling Club has over 110 wrestlers and 22 volunteer coaches. Expectations for young area wrestlers in the next five years is high.
