Devastating Northern California fires have claimed at least 40 lives, destroyed homes and businesses and displaced thousands of people.

Though untouched by flames, many El Dorado Hills residents have been affected by the tragedies unfolding to the west and have found ways to help — opening up their homes to displaced relatives and friends and collecting donations for fire victims.
