Summer is here at last
Hope all of you are enjoying these nice warm days as much as I am, especially doing yard work and watching everything grow except my tomato plants. I have six plants and two tomatoes; isn’t that a good crop! My friends at the Senior Center are doing well. They come for lunch and then on Mondays and Thursdays stay to play Bingo.  Bingo starts at 12:30 p.m. with a lot of seniors going home winners!

It’s our anniversary
Can you believe that the Senior Center has been open five years! On Thursday, June 30, we will have a special luncheon celebrating our fifth anniversary. The band Singin’ 4 Supper will play after lunch. The Senior Nutrition lunch menu is roast turkey with stuffing and gravy. Seating is limited and our special events are becoming more and more popular. You really should come by 11:15 a.m. to assure that you get a seat.

New! First Friday fun
The first Friday of each month will include extra fun during Senior Nutrition Lunch. Join us on July 1 for a patriotic ice cream social immediately after lunch. On Aug. 5 the theme is Treats ‘n Trivia!

Day trip to Lake Tahoe
Join us as we sit back, relax and enjoy the trip to Tahoe on our chartered bus on Sunday, Aug. 21. You will be dropped at Harvey’s casino to spend the day “playing.” The trip departs from El Dorado Hills at 9:15 a.m. and returns at 7 p.m. The fee is $37 and includes a $20 slot voucher and a $7 lunch voucher. Call the CSD Registration Office to sign up at (916) 933-6624.

Senior lunches
Delicious and nutritional lunches are served weekdays at noon at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane. For seniors 60 and older the suggested donation is $3; all others $5. The lunches are fresh and tasty and provide a balanced meal, in addition to an opportunity for seniors to socialize and make new friends. Senior Center activities are scheduled daily before and after lunch.

Senior Center programs
Did you just receive the new Senior Spotlight newsletter highlighting the Senior Center activities throughout the summer? In July the Senior Center programs include: two new art classes — Discover Your Inner Artist, a mixed-media art class and Acrylic Painting; Ukulele Lessons; the Mountain Democrat’s Bob Billingsley will speak on Improving Communication Skills; a guest speaker Be Safe In Your Home; CVS Pharmacy Pack Your Bag Program (meet with a pharmacist to discuss your medications); and learn about the California Telephone Access Program, a  program provided by the State of California that provides free phones that can make voices louder, or have larger buttons for the visually impaired, or you can make a call with memory-dialing button. Call the Senior Center for details and to sign up at (916) 358-3575.

June birthdays
Our friends Seb Basilico, Ray Retallack, Herman Engelhardt and Joyce McDonald all celebrated birthdays in June. Happy birthday everyone!
