“Evil Dead: The Musical” bloodies the Sutter Street Theatre in Folsom.

Based on Sam Raimi’s 80s cult classic films, “Evil Dead” tells the tale of five college kids who travel to a cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force. And although it may sound like a horror, it’s not. The songs are hilariously campy and the show is bursting with more farce than a Monty Python skit.

“Evil Dead: The Musical” unearths the old familiar story: boy and friends take a weekend getaway at abandoned cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive. As musical mayhem descends upon this sleepover in the woods and “camp” takes on a whole new meaning with uproarious numbers like “All the Men in my Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons,” “Look Who’s Evil Now” and “Do the Necronomicon.”

Sutter Street Theatre’s production has a killer rock bank, more blood, more fun, a multilevel set by award winning set designer Mike Jimena and new special effects with the help of Direworld. It also features professional actor and B Street Theatre regular Rick Kleber in the role of Good Ol’ Reliable Jake. Come see the show in an intimate setting the way the show should be seen.  Special seating available in the first three rows called the Splatter Zone, for obvious reasons. This musical is for mature audiences only.

“Evil Dead: The Musical” runs Oct. 7-31 at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sundays, plus additional performances at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, and 7 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31. Tickets are $23 general, $21 seniors, $18 students with ID. For tickets go online to SutterStreetTheatre.com or call the box office at (916) 353-1001.
