Kenny Wizz pays tribute to the King of Pop

FOLSOM — After selling out shows in South Africa, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, Michael Jackson HIStory with Kenny Wizz, arrives in the United States for the first time with a stop in Folsom next month.

This musical biography will take fans right back to the Jackson 5 era; hit after hit tells the story of one of the greatest pop icons the world has ever known. In all, HIStory features more than 20 songs performed live by World No. 1 Impersonator Kenny Wizz. Together with a live band of talented musicians, fully choreographed dancers, authentic costumes and a light and screen show, HIStory is the recreation of what fans want but can never again see — a Michael Jackson concert experience.

The concert’s success is the product of 25 years of dedication from celebrated Las Vegas performer Kenny Wizz to championing MJ’s genius. Referred to as “the real deal” by the Herald Sun in Melbourne and “outstanding” in Johannesburg, South Africa, Wizz was just 20 when Michael Jackson’s career exploded with the release of the pivotal album “Thriller.” During that time, Wizz’ strong resemblance to Jackson heralded the start of a long career as a conduit for Jackson music. His regular performances in Atlantic City gratified audiences and allowed him to perfect his act. After tours in Europe and Asia, Wizz settled in Las Vegas where his show was signed for 11 years at the Riviera Hotel and Casino.

Wizz was shattered by Jackson’s death in June 2009. He closed down his act despite calls to continue. “My decision [to return] was more about giving back to fans rather than making money,” he said and subsequently joined forces with ShowTime Management Australia in 2011 to create Michael Jackson HIStory.

Repeatedly described as a musical juggernaut, Michael Jackson’s influence on popular culture and music is virtually unparalleled. Beside his inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Hollywood Walk of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, Jackson held 13 Grammy awards and 26 American Music Awards including Artist of the Century.

Michael Jackson HIStory featuring Kenny Wizz will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15; 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 16. Tickets are $39 to $59 with premium tickets available for $69. Tickets are available at threestages.net or from Three Stages ticket office at (916) 608-6888 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and two hours before show time. Three Stages is located on the west side of Folsom Lake College campus in Folsom, facing East Bidwell Street.
