Rock out for New Morning

By From page B2 | July 24, 2013

New Morning Youth & Family Services hosts the second annual Rock ‘N Art Benefit Concert from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Lakehills Church.

This evening of music and art features live music from local band Late for Dinner, dancing, beer and wine tasting, appetizers, auction and more. Crystal Basin Cellars, Wofford Acres, Bumgarner, Grace Patriot, Shadow Ranch, Boeger, Madroña and Lava Cap are among those offering wine tasting and serving food.

This year’s event features a special treat: Bob Masse, the 1960s-and-beyond rock & roll poster artist, has designed a signature poster for the event with only 150 signed and numbered prints available for purchase at $100 each. A poster purchase includes an opportunity to win a one-week stay at the Maui Schooner Resort in Kihei, Hawaii, along with $1,000 for airfare. Posters can be purchased in advance at newmorningyfs.org or at the event.

The community is responding with open hearts and hands to the request for donations. Complementary small bites will be served between 6 and 8 pm, along with a wine and beer reception. Attire is summer casual; dancing shoes are recommended but not required.

There is a continuing need for emergency shelter for youth in El Dorado County. New Morning Shelter serves more than 200 runaway, homeless or youth in crisis each year at no cost to the youth. Participation in this event makes services possible.

“My daughter is a good student … my friends tell me they wish their kids were more like mine. … one night, my daughter felt like her life had become more than she could handle. A teen hotline referred her to New Morning’s Youth Shelter, where she spent the next 10 days. I’m very proud of my daughter. She didn’t run away from her problems. Instead, she got all of us the professional help we needed. ” — Parent
