Sac Choral season includes jubilant works

The Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra with Music Director Donald Kendrick are celebrating their 22nd year of performances in the Capital Region with concerts in Sacramento’s Fremont Presbyterian Church, Memorial Auditorium and the Sacramento Community Center Theater.

The opening Stained Glass Concert, Revelations of Love, at 8 p.m. on Oct. 21 in Fremont Presbyterian Church with organist Ryan Enright will feature John Corigliano’s “Fern Hill” with mezzo soprano Hannah Penn along with Michael Gandolfi’s “Winter Light” and works of Handel and Haydn.

The “Wells Fargo Home For the Holidays” annual sell-out holiday concert will be held at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. This full orchestra and choral community celebration will feature Baritone Matthew Hanscom, the Green Valley Theater Puppets and the Sacramento Children’s Chorus.

The SCSO European Masterworks concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018, will showcase Mozart’s “Requiem.” “Exsultate Jubilate” and selections from Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna” with soprano Nikki Einfeld, mezzo Karin Mushegain, tenor Michael Desnoyers and bass Matthew Boehler. The performances marks the SCSO’s Disney Hall 10th anniversary.

The closing Praise and Jubilation concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, in the Sacramento Community Center Theater will include Dvorak’s “Te Deum” and will unveil the area première of Dan Forrest’s “Jubilate” — an exhilarating work in seven movements written in eight languages.
