EDH man in Nevada train wreck

By June 24, 2011

El Dorado Hills resident Jim Bickley and other California Zephyr passenger made an unscheduled stop in Nevada Friday after a semi struck the train.

“At about 11:20 a.m. a semi tractor-trailer rig drove into the side of an Amtrak train at a public railroad crossing east of Reno, Nev.,” states a press release issued by Amtrak. “There were approximately 204 passengers and 14 crew members aboard Train 5, the westbound California Zephyr, enroute from Chicago to Emeryville, Calif.”

Local news outlets are reporting that at least six people, including the truck driver, died in the wreck.

Bickley, speaking to a local television station, said he was in an observation car when the accident occurred. Everyone exited the train in an orderly manner, he added.

People with questions about their friends and family aboard this train should call 1-800-523-9101.
