Nutting gets new date

By From page A1 | January 15, 2014

A Friday hearing, largely in the judge’s chambers, for Ray Nutting outlined possible dates for jury selection for the District 2 county supervisor’s trial jury selection.

Two days, plus an afternoon after normal court is held, will be used for jury selection starting Feb. 11, continuing Feb. 13 and 14.

Defense attorney David Weiner noted that he received a large amount of discovery earlier that day, in part from Cal Fire and two other fire agencies.

Weiner requested a conference hearing be set for Jan. 24 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 2.

Nutting has been charged by both the District Attorney’s Office and a Grand Jury with filing false documents, perjury by declaration and failure to recuse himself from Board of Supervisors votes that could be a conflict of interest. The charges stem from an investigation into Nutting’s participation in a state brush removal program. A second case, misdemeanors concerning Nutting allegedly obtaining loans for bail from fellow county employees and contractors, was merged during the hearing with the case of felonies.
