Oak Ridge Foundation supporting major projects

The Oak Ridge High School Foundation announces the kickoff of its 2013 Capital Campaign — Excellence in Education. The campaign will raise $500,000 to support needed improvements in a cross section of programs and facilities on the Oak Ridge High School campus.

The 2013 capital campaign is based on feedback received in a series of focus groups with past, current and future parents of Oak Ridge students. Compiling their feedback, the Foundation worked closely with Oak Ridge administrators and staff to identify specific opportunities for improving the educational experience for all Oak Ridge students. The ultimate goal is to position Oak Ridge High School as a recognized leader in educational excellence in the State of California.

The campaign is structured so that community members can contribute to one or more specific target areas of their choice. Those areas and their funding goals include:

21st Century Classroom: Goal of $80,000
Funding is focused on helping Oak Ridge obtain the necessary technology to successfully transform all Oak Ridge classrooms into classrooms of the 21st Century. Funding is targeting the purchase of classroom net books as well as funding a 4-course blended learning pilot curriculum initiative in 2013.

Assembly/Gym Building: Goal of $265,000
Measure Q bond dollars are expanding the main assembly area, courts, weight room, and adding a new wrestling training room. Upgrades to the interior of these facilities are badly needed. Funding will include a new electronic scoreboard, wrestling mats, PE equipment, and new weight and plyometric training equipment for the Trojan Performance Training Center.

Science & Engineering: Goal of $70,000
This funding will provide critical field science equipment, engineering resources and additional chemistry lab resources. Further study of an outdoor lab and new “hands on” curriculum will also start in 2013 — leading the way for ORHS to be best in class.

Visual & Performing Arts: Goal of $50,000
The Oak Ridge music and drama programs have a multitude of needs including enhanced sound equipment, stage lighting, acoustical sound partitions, guest conductors and band instruments. These programs and students need additional help to sustain and expand on the high quality learning experience at ORHS.

Athletic Field Improvement Fund: Goal of $35,000
Upgrading the varsity and junior varsity baseball fields has been a long awaited dream of many. Funding will begin addressing the immediate needs for these facilities including a new varsity field back stop, drainage, field repairs, bleacher supports, and a new visitor bullpen as well as other sports facilities.
