The fourth Salute to Valor benefit golf tournament returns to the Serrano Country Club on Sept. 25. Since being established the tournament has raised more than $120,000 for El Dorado County veterans and their families.

“All proceeds from Salute to Valor stays in El Dorado County. They truly make a difference in the lives of local veterans,” said co-chair Gary Campbell, president of the El Dorado County Veterans Alliance. “Supporting the event is one way anyone can express appreciation for the sacrifices of El Dorado County’s veterans.”

Serrano Country Club member Cindy Pellye, co-chair of the event, emphasized the need for the Serrano community to support it. “This is the largest fundraiser for veterans in the county,” she said. “It does an enormous amount of good.”

Pellye described the variety of veteran programs last year including: end-of-life care for veterans; scholarships to the children of veterans; counseling for veterans in law enforcement; aid to homeless veterans; assistance to military families in El Dorado County; care for veterans’ gravesites; training support for local paralympic veterans; and aid to veterans attending college for expenses not covered by the VA.

More than 500 volunteers, sponsors and participants make this possible. Persons interested in supporting the effort can donate, sponsor or play in the tournament. A limited number of dinner seatings following play are also available.

“What makes Salute to Valor different,” Campbell added, “is that we recognize veteran and active members of the armed forces. A trophy is awarded to the top military recruiter playing in the tournament, a color guard ceremony, aerobatic flyover and displays of military vehicles and aircraft make this event out of the ordinary.”

Golf entry is $200 per person and includes golf, lunch, dinner and program. Dinner-only tickets are $60 per person. More information, a donor button and tournament entry forms are found at
