The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency announced the long-awaited opening of the Senior Day Care Center in El Dorado Hills.

The center, located in the Moni Gilmore Senior Center at 990 Lassen Lane, will officially open its doors on March 31. The center will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration for the new Senior Day Care Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, with an open house and facility tours until 4 p.m.

“We are very thankful to the members of the Commission on Aging, Supervisor Ron Mikulaco and the many dedicated community members who have supported the vision for this center over the past several years,” said Wanda Demarest, program supervisor for El Dorado County Senior Day Care Services.

The Senior Day Care Center will provide quality care and activities for adults needing supervision during the daytime hours.

“Most of our clients are older adults whose quality of life has been compromised by a chronic health condition such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia,” said Demarest. “Our goal is to encourage participants to function at their maximum level of independence. The atmosphere and the services at our center provide members with the respect and care they deserve, while also emphasizing a positive self-image and the possibility of improvement through continued stimulation of body, mind and spirit.”

Activities at the Senior Day Care Center will include daily group exercise classes, crafts, modified sports, guest speakers, live music and field trips. Meals and snacks are included. Supportive services, education and referral information are also available for members and their families.

The El Dorado County Transit Authority is a proud partner providing subsidized transportation for Senior Day Care clients since 1990. El Dorado Transit Executive Director Mindy Jackson noted, “This is an exciting opportunity to continue transportation options that support clients and their families who participate in the new program at the El Dorado Hills Senior Day Care Center.”

Transportation services may be arranged through Senior Day Care staff.

In addition to the new Senior Day Care Center in El Dorado Hills, the county will continue to operate its Senior Day Care Center in Placerville. Fees at both sites range from $44 to $58 per day.
