Shooting in Shingle Springs leaves two dead

On Oct. 4 at approximately 5:47 p.m. El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies responded to multiple reports of a shooting having just occurred near the intersection of Mother Lode Drive and Sunset Lane in Shingle Springs.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered two people had been shot at the scene. A female, identified as 28-year-old Jessica Lyn Ball, had a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. A male, identified as Kevin Anthony Thompson, also suffered a single gunshot wound and was transported Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he died.

During the course of the investigation, eyewitnesses reported that Ball and Thompson were in an active verbal argument. An eyewitness heard a gunshot and saw Ball fall to the ground near a vehicle she appeared to be associated with. After hearing the gunshot, a witness said Thompson attempted to leave the scene in that vehicle and collided with a passing truck.

A female resident of El Dorado County observed the collision and pulled behind the involved car in attempt to check on the occupant and call for assistance. In the process of calling for assistance, she observed Thompson exit the driver’s seat of the car, point a handgun at her and fire two rounds into her front windshield. The woman was not injured.

Several eyewitnesses who were in the area and traveling on the roadway observed Thompson walk to the passenger side of the associated vehicle, place a gun to his head and discharge the weapon.

It was later discovered that Ball and Thompson were engaged to be married and lived in the Bay Area. Both had outstanding arrest warrants out of San Jose and were wanted for questioning in an armed robbery. They were in El Dorado County to reportedly visit a family member.
