Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School hosted the recent second cross country meet of the 2016 season. Over six hundred runners participated in the meet with student-athletes coming from Camino, Latrobe/Miller’s Hill, Buckeye, Blue Oak, Lakeview, Cosumnes River, Gold Trail, CMP, Providence Christian, Holy Trinity, Golden Hills and Marble Valley.

All runners faced an intense course that notoriously includes a big hill, known as “Holy Hill,” on the backside of the run.

“Coaches love this course because of Holy Hill and runners feel a great sense of accomplishment after they complete it,” said Melissa Copley, coach of the Holy Trinity team.

The runners ranged from third graders to eighth graders. Third graders (boys and girls) ran a three-quarter mile course. Fourth through sixth graders ran a 1 mile course. Seventh and eighth graders ran a 1.5 mile course.

Copley and race director, Nancy Milla, enlisted many parent volunteers to help with the afternoon.

“The hardest part (of hosting the cross country meet) is accommodating all the spectators and parking. Thankfully, we have an amazing parent volunteer teams who handle different aspects of the afternoon,” Copley said. “But it is the runners that make cross country so special. I am always amazed how much they surprise themselves.”

Milla added, “I have the most admiration for the kids that come in at the end, who don’t give up no matter what. That takes the most courage of all.”
