Youth wrestlers hit the mat, win medals

The El Dorado Hills Wrestling Club wrestlers competed in two tournaments this past weekend — Saturday at the 11th annual El Dorado Hills Invitational and Sunday at the Mother Lode Wrestling Association Tournament of Champions qualifier at Angels Camp.

Wrestlers who participated in Saturday’s tournament included Daelin and Devin Wofford, Anthony and Joey Whiting, Justin Lamson, Carter and Keenan Patterson, Kaden West, Noah, Bryant and Brit Jenkins, Jared Horstman, Bobby and Mikey Mello and Connor King.

Horstman won his weight class and Devin Wofford was second. Anthony Whiting took fifth, Joey Whiting was third and both Noah and Bryant Jenkins placed fourth.

Mikey Mello and Daelin Wofford took third; Bobby Mello was fourth and West finished in fifth place.

Five youth wrestlers competed Sunday in the TOC qualifier. Four came home with medals, including Brandon Claiborne, who took first and qualified. Whiting also finished first, West took second and Horstman was third. King pulled out after he was injured in his second-round match.
